Learn how to ecoprint on silk and wool in color for intermediate students! (pre-requisite Ecoprint for Beginners is strongly recommended) Ecoprinting (also known as botanical printing) involves collecting leaves, plants and flowers to imprint their images directly upon protein fibers using a water bath process. In this workshop, students already familiar with the basics of ecoprinting will learn a technique to create beautiful, all natural designs on silk and wool with the addition of a beautiful colored background. Although we will go over dye preparation in class, the student supply kit already contains pre-dyed fabric for ease of use! Students are encouraged to collect both fresh and dried (off the ground) leaves from their area with emphasis on high tannin leaves such as oak, maples, rose, hickory, sumac, etc. and interesting weeds. Store bought flowers such as daisies, carnations, eucalyptus, strawberry tops, etc can be used. At the end of the workshop, students will take home both a silk and wool ecoprinted scarf with a blue colored background and the knowledge to Ecoprint from Nature's resources. Ecoprinting is a natural, sustainable art form.

Some projects are worked best from the inside out, and we'll look at several ways to cast on in the middle of your work. The Pinhole Cast-on, worked into a slip knot, is perfect for when just a few stitches are needed at the very center of a project. The provisional cord cast-on (PCCO), creates stitches, directly onto your needle(s), for working in both directions. Judy's Magic Cast-on is truly magic, and may often replace the PCCO and other cast-ons. The crochet cast-on is very versatile; it mirrors a standard bind-off for a polished edge, it is easily added mid project where a long-tail cast-on is not an option, and when worked with waste yarn unzips later to reveal provisional stitches. We will cover the crochet cast-on for lefties and righties. Class will involve a small amount of knitting in the round, but it is not necessary to learn cast-ons.
Students should learn: Judy's cast-on, pinhole cast-on, provisional cord cast-on, crochet cast-on

Minimum Age: 12
Required Skills: Advanced beginner (some experience), knitting, purling, using circular needles

Monochromatic double knitting is an alternative to working in the round on double-pointed needles. The magic is the fabric is created by knitting flat on two needles. This is great for making arms and legs for knitted toys, fingers for gloves, or large i-cords like purse handles. You can also make reversible items with knit-purl patterns or make “quilted” items if you are willing to stuff the pockets as you work.
Students will learn: knitting in the round on two straight needles, tubular double-knitting (making large i-cords, such as glove fingers), textured double-knitting (make knits or purls show)
Class Fee: $60
Minimum Age: 14
Required Skills: Advanced beginner (some experience), Should be able to knit, purl, and slip stitches. Experience with plain two-color double-knitting is helpful, but not required.
Materials students should bring: class yarn (smooth, non-splitting, light or bright or medium color)

What’s your favorite way to knit small circumferences in the round? In this class, we will explore knitting in the round with double-pointed needles, on a small circular needle, on two circular needles, and on a magic loop. We’ll even look at some very clever ways to make big i-cords (such as glove fingers) and how to work two tubes (socks, anyone?) at the same time. By the end of class, you’ll know what you do and don’t like! Note: When learning in-person, students can borrow needles so you can try before you buy. For a virtual class, you may spend more time watching and less time knitting if you want to audition techniques before investing in tools.
Students will learn: tubular knitting on double-pointed needles (most students already know this), tubular knitting on two circular needles, tubular knitting on a micro-circular needle, tubular knitting on a magic loop, laddered i-cords for big tubes (such as glove fingers), slipped-stitch double-knitting for large tubes, two at a time set-up in both two circulars and magic loop
