Natural dyes can be an exciting adventure in color. Even with standardized recipes, they never give quite the same result as the previous time. This class will focus on the colors obtained from exotic woods and from insects.

Required Skills: Students need to be able to handle hot water in heavy pots
Materials students should bring: Students should bring paper and pen for taking notes, apron, gloves if desired. Process can be messy, old replaceable clothing is recommended. *Materials fee in cash day of class covers dye and mordants.
Homework: Yes. Students will need to bring the yarn or fiber they wish to dye. I recommend 100% wool yarn in white, off-white, or light gray, wound into small skeins. They will need to bring at least 10 skeins each, of 10-20 yards. Cotton yarn and additional skeins may also be dyed. Cotton should be scoured before mordanting. No skeins should be over 1 ounce.
